Causes of Steven Johnson Syndrome (SJS)

From my previous page, we know SJS causes massive pain, and it is due to medication reaction. What we DON'T KNOW, is what are the drugs THAT causes such severe outbreak of skin disease.

Below are the list of medications that are prone to SJS outbreak if the patient cannot / allergic to them. They are:

  •   NSAIDS (non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs)
  •   Allopurinol
  •   Phenytoin
  •   Carbamazepine
  •   Barbituates
  •   Anticonvulsants
          An example is phenytoin
  •   Sulfa antibiotics
          An example is penicillin
  • Personal note:
My mother was struct down with SJS by Allopurinol, which is commonly found in medications to overcome uric acid. Her medication was high and my dad didn't know because it helped my mom to ease some pain, not knowing after 14 intakes the severe outbreak began. In fact, it started to show signs but both my parents weren't aware of it.

After my mom was hospitalised, I got another news that my cousin's friend who was taking anti-rash medication had the same outbreak and was warded to ICU.

Another case that shown on Chinese newspapers that an uncle in Kedah was struck down by SJS, possible TEN syndrome because of taking antibiotics.

Please remember to read the page of detections of possible SJS outbreak, and what to lookout for before it is too severe through the link below:
